"From a young age I had poor relationships with my dentists. This developed into a terrible fear of dentistry, and as I grew older I started having major problems with my teeth. The debilitation in my teeth and gums made me uncomfortable to smile, or even talk to people. I had little confidence in myself. My life changed completely when I met Dr. Cournot. Her kindness and gentle touch made me feel comfortable receiving the dental care that I needed. Together we have recovered my smile and my confidence. I feel like a new and beautiful woman. There is nothing I can say to capture how much she has done for me. I had given up hope, but she was able to do the impossible."

After years of trying not to smile, I was fortunate enough to find Dr. Jenny Lee. As a long time patient of Dr. Colleen Cournot ( 20 years of  exceptional care), I was introduced to Dr. Lee as someone who had recently joined Dr. Cournot’s practice.

In short, my palate, and therefore my smile, was very narrow as a result of tooth extractions long ago due to overcrowding. Back then, dentists did not use palatal expanders. My fate, therefore, seemed to be set.  Until, in an initial conversation with Dr. Lee about what I had always considered to be an unfortunate matter, she mentioned bonding as an option in creating a broader smile. She suggested  “mock-ups”, (otherwise known as fake and removable bonding) for effect. We did mock-ups as a rendering of the desired outcome and I was over the moon.

Weeks later, I have the gorgeous smile I never thought was possible. Dr. Lee has a background as an artist as well as a dentist. You can completely trust her artistry and her skills in dentistry. She will work with you to create exactly what you want. She is warm and wonderful.  Meeting Dr. Lee served as the impetus I needed to make the changes I never knew to be possible. It was a very fortunate day indeed.

"Before I had a nightguard, I awoke each morning with a sore jaw and often with a pounding headache. In addition, my jaw would click when I ate. Once I started to use the mouthguard, all of these symptoms disappeared. As a side benifit, I have preserved my crown; previously I would grind it with my teeth. At first I was worried that the mouthguard would be uncomfortable, but now I don't even notice when I am wearing it. I would recommend it to anyone who is suffering with similar symptoms like I had.  It has been truly helpful."

I came to Dr. Colleen Cournot after more than a decade of ignoring my dental health, in desperate need of treatment. Shame and fear had prevented me from seeking the treatment I needed. Dr. Cournot's empathy for the psychological aspect of my problems made me comfortable to work with her.

That being said, I want to emphasize the 'professional medical' aspect of Dr. Cournot and her associates. Dr. Cournot herself was always available to address my questions and concerns, as were the other members of her office. She addressed my specific problems in a clear and confident way, and laid out a course of treatment that involved responsibilities for both of us: I had to keep my appointments and follow the recommended course of treatment. In return, she made me better. She exceeded every expectation I had, always kept her word and made me feel that we were partners in my long term care. When I needed a specialized procedure, Dr. Cournot arranged an appointment with an outstanding dental surgeon, and followed up with both of us afterward.

One final point: while my health was of paramount concern and the key factor that finally brought me to treatment, the cosmetic aspect was what I was most interested in. I wanted to be better, but I needed to look better. Dr. Cournot listened to my goals and took them to heart. From the very first visit I felt that she was my advocate, and that my dental plan was designed to fit my goals. While Dr. Cournot stresses the importance of preventive care, the cosmetic work she did for me was nothing short of a miracle."
